A few weeks ago I found out that the movie RAD was finally released in 4K. You have no idea how happy this made me. For those who know me, you know that I love this movie! I mean, I wrote about it a few years ago when we first started our blog. If you’re bored, you can read my original post here.
Now, even though it didn’t win any awards in the 80s, it did feature an award-winning cast, including Talia Shire (The Godfather, Rocky), Jack Weston (Dirty Dancing), Lori Loughlin (Full House) and Ray Walston (Fast Times at Ridgemont High). Plus, it was directed by Hal Needham who also directed Bad News Bears and Smokey and the Bandit.
The crazy thing is, since its original release in 1986, during the rise of the BMX craze, this playful piece of pop culture never saw its way to DVD or Blu-ray. It’s almost like the world decided to forget about it even though it had a huge cult following. But, thanks to the distributors over at Vinegar Syndrome and the restoration experts at Fotokem, RAD has finally been restored in 4K from its original camera negative and is now available on both disc and streaming devices.
If you saw this movie when you were little, or have never seen it but really want to, you can buy and rent it now on Apple TV, Amazon, Google Play and anywhere else you purchase your streaming entertainment.
And, if you have no clue what this movie is about you can watch the trailer below before you buy. But trust me, you’re going to want to watch this movie. Enjoy!
